
Sanya is one of the three prefecture-level cities of Hainan and the southernmost city on the Chinese island. Located at 18° 15′ N latitude, it is about as far north of the Equator as the Island of Hawaii is. The city is renowned for its tropical climate and has emerged as a popular tourist destination. Mount Xixabangma – Shishapangma, also called Gosainthān, is the fourteenth highest mountain in the world and, at 8,013 m (26,289 ft), the lowest of the eight-thousanders.
